ALTINBAŞ UNIVERSITY PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS PRIVACY NOTICE ON THE PROCESSING OF PERSONAL DATA
As ALTINBAŞ UNIVERSITY (the “Data Controller” or “University”), we have prepared this privacy notice to inform you as transparently as possible, pursuant to Article 10 of Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698, about how your personal data is collected, the purposes for which it is processed, the parties with whom it is shared, the legal grounds for processing and your rights. Our University takes the highest possible level of security measures to ensure that your personal data is processed, stored and shared lawfully and to protect your privacy.
When you request information about a program or complete pre-registration through the University's website and/or by filling in a form, and from the application stage of your student status at the University, the University processes data in the following categories:
• Identity information (first name, surname, Turkish identity number, passport number and other identity details),
• Residential information,
• Telephone and other contact details,
• Email address,
• Educational data.
Your data in these categories (“Personal Data”) is collected and processed, both by wholly or partly automated means (through the website and/or other platforms used by the University) and by non-automated means forming part of a data filing system, through forms and verbal statements. Processing is based on the legal grounds stated in Articles 5 and 6 of Law No. 6698: “(c) processing the personal data of parties to a contract is necessary, provided that it is directly related to the establishment or performance of the contract; (ç) processing is necessary for the data controller to fulfil its legal obligations; (e) processing is necessary for the establishment, exercise or protection of a right; (f) processing is necessary for the legitimate interests of the data controller, provided that it does not harm the fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject.”
Your personal data is processed for the following purposes:
• Providing information about academic programs, events, offers and all educational activities conducted by the University (undergraduate, associate degree, master's, doctoral, training and certificate programs),
• Carrying out the work and procedures necessary for prospective students to benefit from the services offered by the University,
• Announcing and promoting the University's programs and services to prospective students, presenting them for consideration, conducting related surveys and planning the necessary procedures,
• Maintaining and improving the University's educational activities,
• Evaluating student satisfaction and the quality of education provided by the University,
• Auditing and analysing data relating to the University's services and shaping promotional activities,
• Meeting the daily living needs of students, employees and short-term visitors staying in dormitories, staff accommodation, social facilities and similar premises on University campuses,
• Ensuring the security and supervision of University locations and protecting the lives and property of students, employees and visitors; fulfilling legal obligations, requests from judicial and/or administrative bodies, and requirements under legislation and/or declared by relevant bodies; and carrying out statistical activities such as listing, reporting and analysis,
• Use as evidence in legal disputes.
Your personal data is processed for these purposes and for the periods they require. Solely to fulfil the processing purposes described above, your data is transferred to:
• Centres and/or units affiliated with the University, University subsidiaries, business partners, and their subcontractors and franchisees,
• Platforms used to provide distance education services,
• Third-party natural persons and/or legal entities legally authorised to receive it,
• The Council of Higher Education,
• Contracted financial institutions for payment transactions.
These transfers are limited to the purposes specified above.
As a data subject, you may submit your requests under Article 11 of the Law, which governs the rights of data subjects, in accordance with the Communiqué on the Procedures and Principles of Application to the Data Controller, through the following University channels:
• By post to Mahmutbey Mahallesi, Dilmenler Caddesi, No:26 Bağcılar, Istanbul,
• Through registered electronic mail (KEP) to altinbasuniversitesi@hs01.kep.tr,
• By secure electronic signature, mobile signature or an email address previously approved by the University, to lisansustutanitim@altinbas.edu.tr.
Under Article 5/2 of the Communiqué, your application must include your first name and surname; your signature if the application is in writing; your Turkish identity number if you are a Turkish citizen, or your nationality and passport number or identity number, if any, if you are a foreign national; your residential or business address for service; your email address, telephone and fax number for notification, if any; and the subject of your request. Attaching any relevant information and documents will help us resolve your request accurately and promptly. We reserve the right to verify your identity before responding.
