Frequently Asked Questions

Fall and spring semester registrations are taken to attend weekday classes in graduate programs. You can apply through our website (enstitu.altinbas.edu.tr) during the application dates stated in the academic calendar, and complete your application by personally submitting your documents to our institute.

Requirements for applying to master’s programs:

  • Having a 4-year undergraduate degree.

  • Having a field graduation.

  • There is no field requirement for the Industrial Engineering Master’s Program

  • There is no field requirement for the Information Technologies Master’s Program.

  • Prospective students who want to enroll in the Art and Design master’s program are required to have a bachelor’s degree in the field. Students who are not graduates of the field can enroll in the program by taking scientific preparation program courses.

  • Field graduation is required for the Electrical and Computer Engineering master’s program.

  • To get at least 55 points or above from any ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination) score type within the last five years.

  • ALES is only valid for thesis programs.

  • The ALES requirement in the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam for non-thesis programs has been abolished.

  • You can view the ALES base score versus GMAT equivalent base score and GRE equivalent base score numerical score on the relevant OSYM page.

  • To declare the exam result document showing the English level for English programs,

  • English language proficiency exemption is made in accordance with the provisions of the Altınbaş University School of Foreign Languages Exemption Directive.

  • Foreign Language Exam (YDS) results are required only for master’s programs taught in English.

  • For candidate students who have been evaluated in other foreign language exams whose equivalence is accepted, a score corresponding to at least YDS 55 score must be declared according to the equivalence table determined by ÖSYM and accepted by YÖK.

  • Foreign language exam is held by Altınbaş University. (Only for Master’s Degree Applications)

  • Signed copy of application documents

  • Original* and photocopy of undergraduate diploma or provisional graduation certificate

  • Original * and photocopy of the transcript from the school you graduated from, showing the degree of success

  • Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) result document (required only for thesis programs).

(*) The original documents required for registration must be declared and their copies must be submitted to the institute for registration. Any identity card, diploma or transcript whose original is not declared will be deemed invalid.

Requirements for applying to PhD programs:

  • Having a master’s degree,

  • Being a field graduate.

  • Students who want to participate in an out-of-field program may need to take Scientific Preparation Courses.

  • Only students with a bachelor’s degree are admitted to the International Relations Integrated Doctorate Program. Candidates applying with a bachelor’s degree are required to have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3 out of 4 or an equivalent score.

  • For candidate students applying with a master’s degree, at least 55 and above in the last five years in any ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination) score type (Numerical, Verbal and Equal Weight),

  • Candidate students who will apply for doctoral programs integrated with undergraduate graduation are required to have a score of 80 or above from ALES.

  • You can view the ALES base score versus GMAT equivalent base score and the GRE equivalent base score versus numerical score on the relevant ÖSYM page.

  • English language proficiency exemption is made in accordance with the provisions of the Altınbaş University School of Foreign Languages Exemption Directive. Candidate students who have an evaluation from other foreign language exams whose equivalence is accepted must have at least a YDS 55 score according to the equivalence table determined by ÖSYM and accepted by YÖK. must declare the score received.

Only individual applications are accepted during the registration process, and the person authorized with a notarized power of attorney can perform the registration process.

It is carried out through the Student Information System (EWI).

A field graduation requirement is required for you to participate in International Commercial Law and Public Law Master’s Degree programs. In addition, legal consultancy services cannot be provided upon completion of the master’s degree program in law by not being a lawyer. Oct.

There is no field graduate requirement for the Business Administration and Politics and International Relations Master’s Program. Our prospective students who are not graduates of the field may need to take additional scientific preparatory courses with the decision of the institute.

The graduate program fees are determined as a package and annually according to the nature of the program. In addition to the determined fees, additional tuition fees are charged to students who repeat courses (get an F grade), withdraw from the course (get a W grade) and choose more than the courses specified in the curriculum to raise the average.

Altınbaş University Undergraduate Graduates Discount Rate
For undergraduate graduates of Altınbaş University, Graduate School of Social Sciences and Natural Sciences graduate (Master’s degree) programs are discounted by 50%. VAT is Included in the program fee.

Altınbaş University Graduate (Master’s Degree) Graduates Discount Rate
For graduate (master’s) graduates of Altınbaş University, Graduate Institute of Social Sciences and Natural Sciences doctoral programs are discounted by 25%.
VAT is Included in the program fee.

In accordance with the 6th paragraph of Article 35 of the Postgraduate Education Regulation published by the Council of Higher Education dated April 20, 2016, it is not possible to enroll and continue in more than one graduate program at the same time, except for Non-Thesis Master’s Programs.

You can have your graduate courses that you have previously taken from another university and have been successful counted in the master’s program that you want to enroll in with the recommendation of the Department / Art Department Presidency and the decision of the Institute’s Board of Directors.
For doctoral programs, a maximum of 4 courses can be counted for candidate students who are accepted with a Bachelor’s degree, and a maximum of 2 courses can be counted for candidate students who are accepted with a master’s degree. In order for the courses to be counted, the transcripts and course contents of the university graduate program that was previously studied should be sent to the Secretary of the Institute.

ARTICLE 7 – (1) Except for the scientific preparation period, the period of study in a master’s programme with thesis is four semesters regardless as to whether the student has registered for each semester or not. Starting from the semester where the programme courses are offered, the programme shall be completed in a maximum period of six semester hours.
(2) The studies of students, who fail to complete their courses with credits and seminar course at the end of four semesters or fail to meet the stipulated success requirements/criteria set forth in this Regulation; or of those who fail to complete their thesis study within a specified period of time or who do not attend their own thesis defence, shall be terminated.
(3) Students who meet all requirements for graduation from a master’s degree programme may be eligible for early graduation.

ARTICLE 12 – (1) Except for the scientific preparation period, the period of study in a non thesis master’s programme is a minimum two and maximum three semesters regardless as to whether the student has registered for each semester or not. Starting from the semester where the programme courses are offered, the programme shall be completed in the abovementioned period of study. 

ARTICLE 17 – (1) Except for the scientific preparation period, the period of study in a PhD programme for post-master’s students (with thesis) is eight semesters regardless as to whether the student has registered for each semester or not. Starting from the semester where the programme courses are offered, the programme shall be completed in a maximum period of twelve semester hours. The period of study in a PhD programme for post-bachelor’s students is ten semesters. The programme shall be completed in a maximum period of fourteen semester hours.

(2) Post-master’s students (with thesis) must successfully complete their PhD courses with credits in a maximum period of four semesters; post-bachelor’s students must successfully complete their PhD courses with credits in a maximum period of six semesters. Students, who fail to complete their courses with credits successfully within the abovementioned period of time or fail to achieve the minimum GPA required by the University, must withdraw from the programme.
(3) Candidates, who fail to complete their theses within the period of time indicated in sub-article (1) of Article 17 must withdraw from the programme even though they complete their courses with credits with a minimum GPA between 3.00 and 4.00, achieve passing score in qualifying examination, and their thesis proposal is accepted.
(4) Upon request from post-bachelor’s candidates, who failed to complete their courses with credits within the specified period of time or whose thesis is rejected by the examiners, they can be granted a non-thesis master’s degree provided that they meet the requirements of a non-thesis master’s programme, including credit load, writing a master’s project etc. The additional period of time to be granted to such students shall be determined by the Institute Administrative Board. Students who fail to complete all requirements of a non thesis master’s programme within a given period of time must withdraw from the programme.

The period in which you do not register for a course is deducted from your education period.

ARTICLE 6 – (2) A Master’s degree programme with thesis consists of at least seven courses with at least twentyone credits, a seminar course and a thesis or dissertation. Seminar course and thesis do not require students to complete any credits. Accordingly, students’ performance in seminar and thesis study is assessed as ‘satisfactory’ or ‘unsatisfactory.’ A Master’s degree programme with thesis consists of at least 120 ECTS credits (at least eight courses, including seminar course, and thesis study with at least 60 ECTS per semester). Students are required to re-register for the thesis period each semester as of the semester following the advisor assignment at the very latest.

ARTICLE 11 – (2) A non-thesis master’s degree programme consists of a total of thirty credits, ten courses with at least 60 ECTS credits and a final project. The candidates are required to enrol in final project course in the semester when they took the final project course and submit a written project and/or a report at the end of the semester. Final projects do not require students to complete any credits. Students’ performance in the final project is assessed as ‘satisfactory’ or ‘unsatisfactory.’

ARTICLE 15- (2) For post-master’s students, a PhD programme consists of at least 240 ECTS credits in total with a minimum of seven courses, a seminar course, a qualifying examination, a thesis proposal, and a thesis project. The total ECTS credits shall not be less than 60 ECTS credits per academic semester. For post-bachelor’s students, a PhD programme consists of at least 300 ECTS credits in total with a minimum of fourteen courses with at least forty two credits, a seminar course, a qualifying examination, a thesis proposal, and a thesis project.

You have the right to choose courses in addition to the ECTS required for graduation. Additionally, payment must be made for the credit course to be taken.

A student who has frozen his registration cannot get a student certificate.

During the period of enrollment freeze, the student is exempted from the granted academic duration.

 
 
 
 

There is no make-up exam in graduate programs.

There is a single course exam in graduate programs.

The relationship with the higher education institution is terminated for students who fail to successfully complete the non-thesis master’s program within a maximum of three semesters or the thesis master’s program within a maximum of six semesters, or who are unsuccessful at the thesis defense at the end of the stipulated period. The relationship is also terminated for students who are unsuccessful at the thesis defense after completing the doctoral credit courses successfully, passing the qualification exam, and having their thesis proposal accepted but failing to complete the thesis within the twelve or fourteen semesters mentioned in the first paragraph.

The maximum duration for successfully completing the required credit courses for the PhD program is four semesters for those accepted with a thesis master’s degree and six semesters for those accepted with a bachelor’s degree. If a student is unable to successfully complete the credit courses within this period or fails to achieve the minimum overall GPA set by the higher education institution, their relationship with the institution is terminated.

You must have a GPA of 2.5 for Non-thesis Master’s Programs and 3.00 for master’s programs with thesis.

You can request your student certificate and transcript through the “Documents” section on the EWI system (https://ewi.altinbas.edu.tr/). After completing the online signature process, your document will be displayed in PDF format. Once the process is completed, print the electronically signed documents and then proceed to the seal process at the Mahmutbey Campus Graduate Education Institute.

ARTICLE 7 –(3) Students who meet all requirements for graduation from a master’s degree programme may be eligible for early graduation.
